The Nuevas Ideas political party announced at 12:03 am this Monday, June 26, that President Nayib Bukele and Vice President Felix Ulloa had been registered as a presidential formula to compete in the 2024 presidential elections.
The deadline to register as pre-candidates for public office under the New Ideas political party was midnight on Sunday, June 25. The next step is the political party’s internal elections to select its candidates.
According to the Twitter publication by “New Ideas,” Bukele and Ulloa met all the requirements and presented the documentation needed to be registered as pre-candidates.
We end the day informing the Salvadoran people that President Nayib Bukele and Vice President Felix Ulloa are already registered as pre-candidates for President and Vice President of the Republic of El Salvador, in the largest political party in the history of El Salvador.

On the other hand, Vice President Ulloa had never expressed or given any suggestion that he was thinking about a new term as vice president. Although, the vice president had never stated that he wasn’t!
At this moment, it is unclear who will assume the country’s presidential duties as both Bukele and Ulloa will be candidates.
The issue of President Bukele seeking to be president for a second term is a hot topic of discussion; many agree that the president is allowed to be a presidential candidate as long as he leaves office six months before the start of the new presidential term.
On the other hand, members of the oppositioins and reporters critical of the president argue that he is not allowed to run for president under the current Salvadoran constitution.
