El Salvador’s iconic Costa del Sol Recreational Park is about to redefine seaside leisure. After years of anticipation, the newly renovated destination opens its doors this Friday, October, 31, offering a modern experience that blends comfort, culture, and community.

Once a familiar weekend escape, Costa del Sol now returns as a completely transformed attraction.

With an $8 million investment from the Salvadoran Tourism Institute (ISTU), the park emerges with world-class facilities designed to welcome both Salvadoran families and international visitors.

The upgraded complex features 17 spacious cabins, 11 restaurants, and four brand-new swimming pools. Each cabin offers comfort right by the Pacific, with cozy beds, refreshing showers, hammocks to relax in, and plenty of fresh water.

ISTU president Eny Aguiñada emphasized that this is more than a facelift. “The park has undergone a complete transformation,” she said, highlighting ISTU’s mission to modernize recreational sites with top-tier infrastructure and quality service.

The park’s new hours—8 a.m. to 8 p.m.—invite visitors to linger for the golden sunset, one of the coast’s most captivating scenes. It’s a deliberate change aimed at enhancing both recreation and relaxation.

Beyond leisure, Costa del Sol is also driving economic opportunity. Over 120 jobs, mostly filled by residents from surrounding communities, have been created.

Vendors who once worked informally around the park now operate in organized, hygienic, and dignified commercial areas.

Tourism Minister Morena Valdez described the project as a complete reconstruction rather than a renovation.

Minister Valdez underscored the site’s potential to become one of the most visited destinations in El Salvador, equipped with modern ticketing, surveillance, and staff facilities.

The upgraded dining options can serve more than 200 guests at once, blending Salvadoran cuisine with coastal charm.

ISTU director Jesús Benjamín Bran Argueta noted that the park’s redesign prioritizes cleanliness, order, and accessibility.

“We didn’t rebuild the old tourist center—we built a completely new park,” he said. “It’s the first public beach park in the country with this level of infrastructure.”

The Costa del Sol revival is part of the broader El Salvador Family Friendly initiative, which certifies tourist destinations as safe and inclusive spaces for families.

Other parks already designated as “Family Friendly” are Cerro Verde, Sunset Park, and Saburo Hirao Natural Park.

Reconstruction began in late 2023, following ISTU’s announcement of a multi-phase investment exceeding $10 million across national parks.

Now, as the park reopens, it stands as a symbol of a new chapter for Salvadoran tourism—a place where beach, leisure, and community come together.

The Costa del Sol Recreational Park is more than a destination; it’s a promise of renewal for a nation rediscovering its coastal identity.
