The Salvadoran government launched “DoctorSV” on Thursday, a free artificial intelligence-powered mobile healthcare platform. The platform offers 24-hour medical consultations via video calls and automated diagnostic support. Officials said nationwide expansion will follow.
President Nayib Bukele introduced the system in a national address, describing the platform as a combined telemedicine and AI diagnostic service intended to modernize the country’s healthcare model.
President Bukele stated that the initiative leverages new tools to ease pressure on clinics and hospitals.
Bukele emphasized the platform’s high accuracy rate, noting that the AI model supporting the tool was developed using Google Cloud. He stated that the system’s precision surpasses that of medical services in several developed nations.
Guy Nae, Google Cloud’s public-sector director for Latin America, said DoctorSV integrates an AI engine with more than 90% accuracy in clinical assessments. He added that the partnership builds on a cooperation agreement signed two years ago.
Officials said the platform will enable patients to rate the care they receive, providing the system with feedback on doctors’ performance and on how test results and medical records were handled. Bukele said many public complaints stem from poor service or inadequate attention.
Stella Aslibekyan of the University of Alabama noted that the program distinguishes itself through its rigorous scientific evaluation methods. She said real-time monitoring will support physicians and strengthen clinical decisions across specialties.
Bukele described the initiative as a fundamental shift in the nation’s healthcare approach, calling it a “radical change” that complements traditional medical visits rather than replacing them. He said hospitals and clinics will remain open to all patients.
Lead Google Cloud Health architect Paco Cuevas said Salvadoran physicians will operate with the company’s latest AI medical model. He described the platform as running entirely on Google Cloud, with AI serving as its “heart and brain.”
Users complete a digital registration and answer questions about their symptoms. Doctors then issue an initial diagnosis, which is compared with AI-generated guidance to offer treatment options and clinical recommendations, officials said.
Cuevas said the system enables faster consultations and allows predictive analysis of health trends. He added that the AI model encompasses multiple specialties, providing doctors with immediate access to cross-disciplinary information.
Bukele stated that the platform will remain free for users, with costs covered through public-private partnerships. He said adoption will begin with younger adults, whom he referred to as “digital natives,” before extending to older age groups.
