SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — As President Nayib Bukele marks six years in office, public approval of his administration remains anchored in one resounding theme: security.
A new survey by LPG Datos shows that 90.8% of Salvadorans are satisfied with the government’s efforts to improve public safety—a level of support unmatched by any other policy area.
The LPG survey confirms that security remains the cornerstone of Bukele’s high approval rating. Only 3.9% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with his performance in this area.
President Nayib Bukele’s security strategies, including the Plan Control Territorial and the State of Exception, have significantly transformed El Salvador by dismantling powerful gangs that had dominated communities for decades.

Under Bukele’s administration, homicide rates have plummeted to historic lows. Once one of the world’s most violent countries, El Salvador now frequently reports entire days without a single murder nationwide.
The government’s aggressive crackdown on criminal groups has transformed public life, allowing residents to reclaim neighborhoods that have long suffered from violence and fear.
Streets that were once dominated by gangs now experience a greater sense of peace and safety.

Security Minister Gustavo Villatoro emerged as the highest-rated public official, mentioned by 14% of respondents as performing the best in his role.
He was followed by Public Works Minister Romeo Rodríguez (4.2%) and Defense Minister René Merino Monroy (3.8%).
Security Minister Villatoro and Defense Minister Monroy are key figures in implementing Bukele’s security measures.
Overall, the LPG Datos survey underscores that perceptions of safety remain the primary driver of Bukele’s sustained public support, even as other areas of governance experience a gradual erosion in approval.
