In 2024, El Salvador is experiencing a significant increase in tourism. The country is drawing visitors with its vibrant culture, scenic landscapes, and improved safety.
According to Morena Valdez, El Salvador’s Minister of Tourism, the five most visited tourist sites in 2024 are the El Puerto de La Libertad Tourist Complex, the National Library of El Salvador, Balboa Natural Park, Sunset Park Amusement Park, and La Puerta del Diablo Natural Park.
1. El Puerto de La Libertad Tourist Complex
El Puerto de La Libertad tourist complex is part of the Surf City El Salvador project. This area has beaches, shops, hotels, a boardwalk, restaurants, and more.
2. The National Library of El Salvador
The new Salvadoran National Library (BINAES) is a modern cultural landmark located in the San Salvador Historic District. This impressive facility was constructed with funding from the People’s Republic of China.
3. Balboa Natural Park
The Balboa Natural Park is located in Los Planes de Renderos, about 12 kilometers from San Salvador. Balboa Park was opened in 1949 and is considered the first “tourist center” in the country.
Balboa Park has different entertainment areas, play zones, a modern soccer field with synthetic grass, cycle paths, children’s fun games, picnic areas, a castle, a labyrinth, and areas with abundant vegetation.
4. Sunset Park Amusement Park
Sunset Park in La Libertad, El Salvador, is a popular coastal attraction offering scenic ocean views, amusement rides, and family-friendly activities. This vibrant park has become a favorite spot for both locals and tourists.
5. La Puerta del Diablo Natural Park
La Puerta del Diablo Natural Park in El Salvador is a stunning outdoor destination known for its dramatic rock formations, hiking trails, and panoramic views. This area was recently renovated and is a popular spot for adventure and nature lovers.

Local and International Tourism has increased in 2024
Tourism in El Salvador has increased in 2024. Minister Valdez reported to the Finance Committee of the Legislative Assembly that 9.8 million visits were recorded to all tourist sites in El Salvador during the first ten months of 2024.
Both local and international tourism have seen growth this year. Salvadoran tourism authorities report a 16% increase in visits to tourist sites during the first ten months of the year compared to the same period in 2023.
Also, international visits to El Salvador in 2024 have increased by 19% compared to the previous year.

A primary factor behind the tourism increase in El Salvador in 2024 is the country’s improved security. With a substantial drop in crime and strengthened public safety, the nation’s tourist spots have become a more appealing destination for both local and international visitors.
