Burnt Taste in Vape? Causes and Remedies

Vaping has become popular as a safer and healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes. Besides the health benefits, you can also enjoy a wide variety of flavours. Studies also show that vaping can help you quit smoking cigarettes for good.

However, one thing that most vapers experience is a burnt taste while vaping. The unpleasant taste can impact your vaping experience, but the good thing is that there are remedies. Herein, we explore the reasons behind the burnt taste in vaping and provide tips on how to correct this issue.

Causes of Burnt Taste from Vape

Electronic vaping devices are fitted with a coil that heats the vape liquid to produce vapour. In most cases, the burnt taste can be traced back to a burning of the coil. If the coil overheats, it can char the wicking material and e-liquid, resulting in an unpleasant taste.

Taking dry hits can also burn the coil and wicking material. This often happens when you vape while the tank has little to no e-juice. When the wick is dry, chances are it will burn, producing a burnt taste while vaping.

Continuous vaping, aka chain vaping, can also make the coil overheat. Chain vaping doesn’t give the wick enough time to re-saturate between puffs. As you vape, the wick will dry, and you will start getting hints of a burnt taste in vape.

Advanced vape kits like mods and sub-ohms have power control features that let you regulate the flow of power through the coil. Vaping at high power settings can cause the coil to overheat, especially if you are using the wrong type of vape juice.

Using flavoured vape juices causes residue build up on the coil. With time, the buildup will start getting charred, leaving a burnt taste.

How to Fix a Burnt Coil Vape

In some cases, the only solution is replacing the burnt coil with a new one. Ensure that the new coil is primed properly before you start vaping. Priming allows the coil to get saturated with vape juice, preventing charring during use.

Ensure that the tank levels don’t drop too low. Check the e-liquid levels in your tank to ensure that the wick remains adequately saturated. Also, clean the tank before a refill to get rid of any residue buildup in the coil.

Another thing you should be aware of is the power setting on your mod. Buy e-liquids that are suitable for the mod you are using. Vaping using incorrect settings will not only cause a burnt taste on the vape but also has a very harsh throat hit that is equally unpleasant.

Last, avoid chain vaping. Take breaks between puffs to give the coil sufficient time to cool down and allow the wick to re-saturate.

Summing Up

Experiencing a burnt taste in a vape kit can be frustrating. However, unless the damage on the coil is too much, there are ways of fixing a burnt coil. Ensure that you prime the coils well before vaping.

Regular maintenance will also extend the coil’s lifetime. Take the vape kit apart and clean the coil and tank once or twice per month.
