SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — Spain has officially joined El Salvador’s Labor Migration Program, offering a new pathway for Salvadorans to work abroad under legal and secure conditions.
Rolando Castro, the Ministry of Labor, announced that a new group of more than 30 Salvadorans will soon depart for Mallorca, Spain, to work as lifeguards at a hotel chain.
The initiative marks the expansion of a government-backed program that has facilitated employment opportunities overseas for thousands of Salvadorans.
Labor Minister Rolando Castro emphasized that the workers will be assigned to swimming pools rather than open water environments, ensuring safer working conditions.
“The Spanish labor market has been opened. They’re going as lifeguards, a field that has often gone unnoticed, but they are highly trained professionals,” communicated Castro.
The workers will receive four-year visas under a renewable contract system, depending on their job performance.

Workers will spend eight months abroad, followed by a four-month stay in El Salvador, allowing the program participants time to reunite with their families before returning to work in Spain.
“This is a dignified opportunity with proper labor protections and conditions,” Castro added. “We are committed to promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration.”
More employment opportunities, legal work status, and a brighter future for families are all benefits that Salvadorans will obtain from Spain’s entry into the country’s Labor Migration Program. Plus, it boosts the country’s economy.
