El Salvador is looking to increase the number of tourists this year, aiming to attract over 4.2 million international visitors in 2025, according to Morena Valdez, the Salvadoran Minister of Tourism.
Minister Valdez announced the visitor’s goal for this year, following a successful 2024, during which the country received approximately 3.96 million tourists.
According to the Minister of Tourism, the country received 3,956,794 international visitors last year, which represented a growth of 17% compared to previous years.
Minister of Tourism Morena Valdez attributes this visitor’s growth to the country’s improved security and the revitalization of key tourist sites.
El Salvador has improved security to the point that it is considered one of the safest countries in Latin America, a drastic change from the time it was known as the murder capital of the world.
Furthermore, Salvadoran authorities have invested millions of dollars in upgrading infrastructure around popular destinations and revitalizing key tourist sites.
The United States remains the largest source of tourists to the country, accounting for 39% of visitors in 2024. Guatemala followed with 26% and Honduras was third with 16%.
In 2025, the country is set to host several international events, including five surfing tournaments and two golf tournaments. These events are expected to increase tourist arrivals.
With these strategic initiatives, El Salvador is poised to strengthen its position as a leading tourist destination in Central America.
