Traveling to new places and experiencing different cultures and perspectives is such an important aspect of life to some, but the fact that it can also produce so many anxieties might prevent some from embracing it.
They don’t need to stand in the way, though. It’s an important thing to recognize, as it means that you can then begin to take steps toward minimizing those fears. Once that’s accomplished, you can begin to get more practical about traveling. With these anxieties potentially taking on many different forms, though, it’s important to know exactly what steps to take to put them behind you.
Comfort Zone
While the idea of your daily routine might bring a sense of monotony that you’re hoping to break by traveling, it also undeniably brings a sense of comfort. At home, you know your surroundings, you can speak the language and you know what to expect in a given place or day. When you’re traveling, part of the excitement is experiencing everything that’s entirely new – but that also brings some trepidation.
Leaving your comfort zone can be enormously beneficial, however, and that means it’s something to be embraced. That might not make it any easier, but travel in itself can be better thought of as an adventure – less of a singularly relaxing experience than a dedicated holiday might be but perhaps ultimately offering something richer and more varied.
Fear of Flying
The big one in the way for many people is the flight itself. While some might not experience this so much (especially if they are seasoned flyers), the flight itself can be enough to put other people off entirely. What some might find useful here is to research flight statistics – understanding how many flights there are globally per year, against the very low number of accidents – as well as gaining a better sense of how common turbulence is.
Alternatively, it might be that you want to simply find better ways of occupying your time on the flight so that your mind isn’t so singularly resting on the travel itself. This might mean downloading movies to absorb yourself in or deciding to play slots for real money to engage you. Even just ensuring that you have a decent travel pillow can allow you to put on some noise-cancelling headphones and try to drift to sleep.
Safety
One of the things that people often look into when travelling is how safe their destination is. They might want to know if it’s the kind of place they can walk around without concern, what the crime statistics are like or what kind of natural disasters they can expect. All of these are important things to know, but it’s easy to get wound up in what’s different about these places compared to where you currently live based on statistics alone. Instead, looking into some anecdotal stories about what it’s actually like to spend time in these places (perhaps as both someone who lives there and a tourist) can help you get a better grasp on what to expect.
