SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — President Nayib Bukele met late Wednesday with lawmakers and senior figures from his ruling Nuevas Ideas party, just one day after the Legislative Assembly passed the controversial Foreign Agents Law.

The New Ideas (Nuevas Ideas) legislators reiterated that, through the Legislative Assembly, it will continue to provide governability to the administration of President Nayib Bukele.

On June 1, 2025, President Bukele will have completed the first year of his second presidential term. The President of the Legislative Assembly, Ernesto Castro, promised to ensure “governability” for President Bukele.

“Governance. We remain and will remain firm,” wrote the speaker of parliament, Ernesto Castro, on his X social media account after the meeting with the president, the president of the Cyan political party, and the caucus.

“When there is unity, teamwork flourishes. Only together are we able to overcome challenges and continue on the path of transformation for our beloved country,” stated Deputy Alexia Rivas.

“In the Legislative Assembly, we continue to accompany President Nayib Bukele in the foundation of El Salvador,” said Deputy Rivas.

“The path is clear. We have not failed, nor will we fail, the Salvadorans,” wrote Christian Guevara, leader of the Nuevas Ideas parliamentary faction.

Deputy faction leader Caleb Navarro thanked President Bukele and assured him that he can continue “counting on us, his Legislative Assembly.”

The Nuevas Ideas party has been instrumental in ensuring governability for President Bukele, who in his first term had to deal with a hostile parliament during his first two years in office.

The meeting between Bukele and the new ideas legislator took place during a month filled with political controversies.

Notable events included the El Faro report on potential negotiations with gangs, the arrest of human rights activist Ruth Lopez, and the passing of the controversial Foreign Agents Law.
