El Salvador might be the smallest country in Central America but it will leave you speechless with its pristine beaches, lush rainforests, amazing surfing spots, best sunset-watching spots in the world, and lip-smacking food, from tamales to Pupusas.
When holidaying in El Salvador, it will be impossible to keep your phone down because there are simply too many Instagram-worthy places. For example, Cerro Verde National Park, the Gran Zona Rosa neighborhood, and El Cuco are some of the stunning sunset-watching spots where you’ll be tempted to take a minimum of 10-15 pictures of yourself, with the beautiful, burnt orange sun in the background. The ancient ruins, the sandy beaches, and the gorgeous rainforest all make for the perfect backdrop for gorgeous pictures for your Instagram.
But, alas! You are on an El Salvador holiday with an iPhone that is running out of storage space. It is a nightmare!
However, there’s no need to panic. Take a deep breath and follow the steps below to make more space on your iPhone for beautiful El Salvador holiday pictures.
- Delete all the apps you no longer use
Apple has always packed the iPhone with the most amazing cameras you can get in a smartphone, and if you have the iPhone 15 Pro with 5X optical zoom, you are carrying a mini SLR in your pocket. It would be a shame not to be able to click as many pictures as possible while you are holidaying in El Salvador because of lack of storage space.
Unlock your phone and attack the applications you no longer use but are simply sitting there, eating space. Uninstall them all or you can offload some of them if you think you’ll need them later.
This should clear out a lot of space for your holiday pictures.
- Optimize & back up photos and videos
When was the last time you checked the Photos app? Pictures and videos from your last holiday might still be sitting there, uselessly taking up space. Also, once you open this app, you’ll quickly find you don’t even like or need half of the pictures or videos on it.
Go through them carefully and delete the ones you don’t need anymore. Look for duplicates and delete them. Delete the blurry pictures.
Once this is done, it is time to back up the photos and videos. Your options for backing them up are:
- Transferring them to an external drive, such as a USB or external hard drive.
- Transferring them to a cloud storage, such as iCloud or Google Photos. If Google Photos out of storage or you’ve used iCloud’s free 5GB storage, you can upgrade storage by paying a small fee.
- Transferring them to your Mac and deleting them on your phone.
Pictures and videos consume a lot of space, especially if you are capturing your memories in the highest resolution possible. So, optimizing and backing them up and then deleting them on your iPhone can free up a lot of space.
- Utilize the built-in Optimize iPhone Storage option
If you still need to efficiently manage your photo storage, leverage the built-in optimization features on your iPhone.
Go to the Settings application > head to Photos > turn on the Optimize iPhone Storage option. This setting ensures device-friendly, smaller versions replace high-resolution videos and photos, saving you a lot of storage space.
Don’t worry; the original versions will remain stored in iCloud (if you have turned on automatic syncing with iCloud).
- Disable the Live Photos feature
Do you love clicking pictures all the time? If so, turning off the Live Photos feature would help. When this feature is enabled, your iPhone starts to record a short video whenever you take a still picture.
The Live Photo appears as a single photo in the Photos application, but when you try to download it from a computer or iCloud, you’ll see it is actually two files – a short video file and a still photo. The video file takes up significant storage space. Hence, if you want to conserve storage, it is best to disable the Live Photos feature.
- Delete the watched Netflix downloads
Did you know the movies and TV series you download within the Netflix application actually takes up storage space on your device? Go to the Downloads section on the Netflix application and remove the downloaded titles to clear storage space.
- Purchase an iPhone with a large storage capacity
Do you go through your storage space quickly? Maybe it is time to buy a new iPhone with as much storage capacity as you can afford before your El Salvador holiday starts. iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with a whopping storage space of 1TB, which would be enough for all your holiday pictures and videos.
So, there you have it! Make more space on your iPhone so you don’t miss out on capturing gorgeous photos and videos on your El Salvador vacation.
