The Salvadoran Government Expects 15 Cruise Ships During the 2023-2024 Season

The Cruise Season Began in October 2023 and Ends in May 2024

The Salvadoran Government expects at least 15 cruise ships to dock in national ports in the 2023-2024 cruise season. Federico Anliker, president of the Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA), communicated the government’s expectations in a Chanel 10 TV interview.

Anliker also noted that the number of cruises may increase; the cruise ship arrival season began in October 2023 and ends in May 2024.

The CEPA president stated that they have already coordinated with the Ministry of Tourism the routes to the Crystal Serenity passengers to visit various destinations in El Salvador. “We already coordinate the routes with the Salvadoran Ministry of Tourism to take them to see our country,” remarked Anliker.

In the last 2022-2023 cruise season, CEPA registered the entry of 12 cruise ships into Salvadoran ports, with about 17,096 visitors, all entering through the Acajutla Port.

Salvadoran officials observed that these visitors explored various destinations during their visit, contributing $1.4 million in profits to the country.

Tourism to El Salvador in 2024

Tourism to El Salvador continues to improve as the country is safer, and the current administration is investing in improving all the cultural and tourist destinations.

In 2023, El Salvador set a record of people visiting El Salvador. According to the Minister of Tourism of El Salvador (MITUR), 3.4 million people entered the country in 2023, setting a new record.

Also, in 2023, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) ranked El Salvador fourth in its list of the worldwide best-performing destinations for 2023; El Salvador ranked behind Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Albania.

Furthermore, the New York Times newspaper listed El Salvador in position 33 of the 52 Places to Go in 2024; this list will help the Salvadoran tourism industry in 2024
