The 2022 Surf City ISA World Junior Surfing Championship is the 18th edition of this prestigious event featuring some of the best junior up-and-coming surfing talents. It is taking place at El Tunco Beach in El Salvador.

The opening ceremony occurred on May 27th in an atmosphere of joy and brotherhood. The event has the participation of more than 400 athletes from 45 countries.

The Opening act began with the ceremony of the sands. At this time, the flag bearers of each country deposited a little sand from their respective countries in a glass container as a symbol of brotherhood between nations.

Thank you, President Bukele, for believing in surfing; in 2019, he called me to ask me to do something between both institutions, and several years later, we are back in El Salvador.” Fernando Aguerre.

The 2022 Surf City El Salvador ISA World Junior Surfing Championship is one more step that positions El Salvador on the world surfing scene.

“Surf City ISA Junior Championship is a sample of the country’s positioning at the international level, thanks to the correct vision of President Nayib Bukele. The rising stars of surfing are enjoying the competition in our natural arena.” Ministry of Tourism of El Salvador.

Once again, El Salvadoran, with its fantastic beaches, will host another top-notch international surfing event.

The Surf City El Salvador ISA World Junior Surfing Championship games will take place at La Bocana of El Tunco beach and El Sunzal beach in La Libertad from May 27th to June 5th, 2022.

We are stoked that our junior surfers will experience first-hand the amazing waves and warm hospitality of Surf City El Salvador.” Fernando Aguerre, ISA President.

According to the International Surfing Association (ISA), “The 18th edition of the event is set to feature the best up-and-coming surfing talent, reaffirming the premier stature of the event as a leading pathway to world-class and Olympic surfing.”

The partnership between El Salvador and the International Surfing Association is reaping great results for the nation.

In 2021, El Salvador successfully hosted the ISA World Surfing Games, the final qualifier event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. And this year, the country will host the World Surf League Championship Tour for the first time.

As part of the SurfCity initiative, we are honored to host the Games again and continue to show the world what our beautiful country has to offer.”

The Nayib Bukele administration made it clear since it began its term that they wanted to use Surf as a way to attract tourism to El Salvador; and also showcase the fantastic Salvadoran surf spots.

Since 2019, El Salvador and the ISA have developed a relationship that has produced excellent results for El Salvador surfing and tourism.

We are happy to continue partnering with El Salvador to support President Bukele’s objective to build a new future for the country and change people’s lives through surfing.”

El Salvador’s Surf City project, with its fantastic beaches, continues to change people’s opinion of El Salvador.

El Tunco beach and El Sunzal beach, which will host the junior championship, are two of the best surfing spots in El Salvador; they are popular with local and international surfers.
