Today, the Legislative Assembly approved special provisions that will expedite the construction of the National Library of El Salvador.

With 67 votes in favor and two against, the approved measures will become the first step for El Salvador to have a first-class National Library.

The approved provisions will allow the Ministry of Housing to streamline the required permits and paperwork to expedite the construction of the National Library of El Salvador.

With 67 votes in favor, we issued Special Provisions for the Approval and Execution of the Assistance Project for the Construction of the National Library of El Salvador.”

The new National Library will be built in the Downtown Historic Center of San Salvador on the site of the old “Francisco Gavidia” National Library.

The library will become one of the modern in the region; it will be built in cooperation with the People’s Republic of China.

The design will simulate an open book and will cost $54 million with the support of the government of the People’s Republic of China.

This non-reimbursable cooperation from China is possible thanks to the efforts of president Nayib Bukele and the good relations with the People’s Republic of China.

“This new space will be of great cultural significance for the country and will make our Historic Center even more attractive and modern.”

The new infrastructure will have the ideal conditions and capacity to store teaching materials and technology. Also, it will establish a space to protect the country’s documentary, bibliographic, intellectual, and literary heritage.
