Felissa Cristales is a Congresswoman representing the department of La Libertad, El Salvador. She was elected to be a legislator under the ARENA flag to serve the legislative term of 2018 to 2021.
As the 2021 elections approach, Cristales will not be allowed to seek reelection under the right-wing political party ARENA.

Cristales is no longer in the grace of the right-wing political party ARENA, this is due to her criticism of the COENA and the decisions that the party leaders have taken.
Also, Cristales has supported some of the proposals of President Nayib Bukele; this is something her current political party is not happy about.
Salvadoran Political parties have a rule that no current politician serving an elected term can change political parties. This means that Felissa Cristales will not be able to compete with a different political party or as an independent in the 2021 elections.
ARENA does not allow Felissa to participate in the primaries.
The right-wing political party ARENA did not allow Felissa Cristales to participate in their internal elections. For now, Cristales will not be able to seek reelection in the upcoming 2021 elections.
“I have a constitutional right to participate in politics.” said the congresswoman. In social networks, many people have expressed support for the Cristales and have condemned the attitude of the ARENA party.
Felissa Cristales has been a critic of how the ARENA political party has been managed internally; also, she has criticized many of the decisions, that the political party has taken in the Salvadoran Legislative Assembly.

Even though ARENA is supposed to be a democratic entity, the directors of the right-wing political party are not used to their politicians questioning the decisions the party makes.
The problems between ARENA and Cristales began when Gustavo López was elected president of COENA.
